An important cultural venue in Perpignan

The museum is located on rue Mailly, in the heart of the city. It is housed in two mansions in the historic center: the Hôtel de Lazerme and the Hôtel de Mailly.
It boasts a rich collection of works, including Gothic, Baroque and Modern art. In the Gothic period, the Retable de la Trinité is an incredible masterpiece of Catalan Gothic painting, demonstrating the dynamism of trade in Catalonia and the wealth of Perpignan on the Mediterranean. For the Baroque period, Hyacinthe Rigaud was born in Perpignan on July 18, 1659, and became the portraitist of Louis XIV and the royal family. He also painted several self-portraits, including his most famous, "Au Turban", painted in 1698. This work can be admired at the Musée Hyacinthe Rigaud.

Finally, modern art is represented by works by Gustave Violet, Louis Bausil, Aristide Maillol and Raoul Dufy, which enrich the museum's collection.

Remarkable exhibitions

Each year, the museum kicks off the summer season with a major temporary exhibition that runs until November, featuring famous artists who had a connection with Perpignan.

In 2017, after years of renovation, the museum reopened with an exhibition dedicated to the great artist Pablo Picasso.

Other major temporary exhibitions followed in subsequent years, including Raoul Dufy, the sculptors Rodin and Maillol...

In 2023, the Guino-Renoir or the Fourth Dimension of Sculpture exhibition runs from June 25 to November 5. It is dedicated to the Catalan sculptor from Girona, Richard Guino (1890-1973), who co-signed the sculpture of Auguste Renoir (1841-1919).

After Richard Guino, the works of painter and ceramist Jean Lurçat will be on show from June 22 to December 29, 2024.
