The Sanch procession
What is the Procession de la Sanch? Much more than a simple procession, it symbolizes Christ's Way of the Cross towards his crucifixion. It's worth noting that every year, people come from far and wide to attend this age-old event... with some 15,000 people taking part.
A symbol of piety, cohesion and tradition, it brings together all the villages, via the parish members of the archconfraternity, who participate and bring their misteris (life-size wooden pieces and statues). This majestic procession is one of the most moving expressions of Catalan popular fervor. The music played throughout the day, the songs and the costumes all contribute to creating a unique atmosphere that can't be found anywhere else.
Dressed in large black robes, the "caparutxos", to atone for their sins, parade to the sound of the iron bell of the red-clad penitent at the head of the procession, called the Regidor. It's a cultural and intangible heritage of exceptional longevity, not to be missed.

3pm Departure from Saint-Jacques church
Every Good Friday, the Confrérie de la Sanch commemorates the Passion of Christ through its procession. The procession follows a pre-established itinerary through the streets of the historic center. In 2023, the procession started at 3pm from Saint-Jacques church. There are key places, known as "reposoirs", where you can take your time to get a good look at the brotherhoods and the procession. Visitors are generally advised to position themselves in the main squares for a better view, such as Place Gambetta.
