FOUNTAIN OF ALL WOOD: BEATRICE LUSSOL, MAX WYSE
Presentation
📍 Centre d'Art Contemporain Àcentmètresducentredumonde
Max Wyse and Béatrice Lussol knew each other's work before they met in Metz in 2017 at an opening at the Frac Lorraine: they had exhibited ten years earlier at the same gallery in New York, Envoy Gallery, without meeting.
Max Wyse and Béatrice Lussol extract the visible from the invisible. Intensity at work as a margin of their lives: an elastic space-time, a mental space that seems to lie outside our fixed temporality: the other side of a membrane. Firing on all cylinders, including the autobiographical, playing with multiplicity and repetition, the elements are there for something other than what they are, perpetually demultiplying themselves, and could be part of the optical unconscious. The plasticity of the drawn and painted results reveals itself in all its polysemy.
Wyse and Lussol deploy a vocabulary of forms that sometimes coincide, constantly mutating, sometimes touching on symbolism.
One form, one image, may be pregnant with another, the next. The drawing is discovered as it appears, like a lived adventure.
During their exhibition at Acmcm, Lussol and Wyse will provoke a dialogue between their pictorial universes through a variety of media, including site-specific work in the vast and diverse space of Perpignan's historic contemporary art center.
Guided tours by appointment only at mediationsacmcm@gmail.com from Thursday to Sunday at 3.30pm and 5pm.
