** the monument will be closed on december 17 and 18 **. * Site managed by the Pyrénées-Orientales department.

This superb palace dominates the city from the top of its promontory.
Located in the heart of Perpignan, the 13th-century palace was for almost a century the center of the short-lived kingdom of Majorca.
The palace was the brainchild of James II, who wanted a residence in the mainland capital of his kingdom.
The castle was begun before 1274 in late Gothic style and completed after 1300 in Gothic style.
The lavish chapels reflect the refinement of the period and Perpignan's status as the economic, political and cultural center of the medieval Mediterranean.
