Built in 1397, it was once a stock exchange and the seat of the sea consulate in charge of maritime trade disputes. It forms an important heritage ensemble with the adjoining town hall, the square and its statue, and the cathedral just a stone's throw away. This is one of Perpignan's liveliest districts, with several shopping streets running through it.
It is home to the city's tourist office.
