In the 13th century, on the initiative of the kings of Majorca, the Franciscan convent was built, the foundation of which legend attributes to Francis of Assisi himself. In the following century, it comprised three churches, two cloisters, numerous conventual buildings and gardens.
Classified as a Historic Monument in 1974, the buildings are now the property of the Pyrénées-Orientales department, which ensures their preservation by maintaining, animating and promoting them.
