This 1751 building housed the classrooms of the military academy created by Louis XV in Perpignan.
The Comte de Mailly, lieutenant-general of Roussillon, taught military and equestrian education to some of the province's noble young men.
There was a library, drawing room, cartography room, study rooms and teachers' lodgings, while the riding schools and stables were located in the adjacent building (now the Galliéni barracks).
After becoming a private residence in the 19th century, the building was purchased in 1905 and refurbished, with the addition of a second floor, by Mgr Carsalade du Pont.
It then became the bishopric of Perpignan until 2014, when it was acquired by the city to house an exhibition center for the Sanch.
